Repair guidance
What to know about washer repair
A useful service page should explain more than a list of faults. Here is how diagnosis, timing, local coverage, and the repair decision work for washer repair.
Spin complaints often begin with drainage
Many washers will not enter high-speed spin while water remains in the tub or the control cannot confirm a locked lid or door. Diagnosis checks the drain path, pump behavior, pressure sensing, lock feedback, load balance, and drive system in sequence. Replacing a motor will not solve a blocked pump, and replacing a lock will not solve wiring or control feedback that prevents the same signal.
Movement and noise depend on the installation
A washer that walks or bangs may be overloaded, unlevel, sitting on a flexible floor, shipping hardware may remain installed, or suspension and bearing components may be worn. The technician observes the machine with an appropriate load and separates installation movement from internal mechanical play. Front-load bearing, top-load suspension, and direct-drive faults produce different patterns and repair decisions.
Leaks can appear in more than one cycle stage
Fill hoses and valves leak while water enters; door boots, dispensers, and tub connections may leak during wash; pumps and hoses often reveal problems during drain. Oversudsing can push water from vents and seals without a broken component. Note whether the leak appears at the front, rear, or center and when it begins. Shut off the washer supply if water continues while the machine is off.
Common questions
Answers before you schedule
Why will my washer drain but not spin?
The control may not confirm the lid or door lock, the load may remain unbalanced, or the drive, suspension, speed sensing, wiring, or control system may have failed. A live spin test narrows the cause.
Can too much detergent cause washer problems?
Yes. Excess suds can interfere with level sensing, draining, spinning, rinsing, and door sealing. Use the detergent type and amount specified for the washer and local water conditions.
Should I repair a washer with loud bearings?
The answer depends on tub design, parts configuration, age, corrosion, and overall condition. Bearing work can be extensive, so diagnosis should be followed by a repair-versus-replace estimate.
What should I do when the washer door stays locked?
Do not force the door. Allow the safety delay, check whether water remains in the tub, and use only the model's documented emergency procedure. A drain or lock diagnosis may be needed.
